Procter & Gamble (P&G) started out 2008 with a bang, according to the Fortune 500 list for 2009. It sold off its Folgers brand, put through price increases and moved more aggressively into upscale beauty treatments when it bought hair-care brand Frederic Fekkai.

With that, P&G has jumped to 20 from 23 on the Fortune 500 annual list of top corporations.
